Honestly, I'm not sure how many of these artists you could really call 'country'.

It's not really a genre I'm very knowledgeable about, nor one I'm particularly drawn to. This mix represents almost the entirety of what I own that could remotely be described in that way.

So, like the rest of these mixes, it ended up being a bit of an arbitrary collection that represents more where things live on my record shelves than a strict adherence to genre.

Let's say they have a country 'vibe'.

They're not all strictly that 'funky' either. I snuck in a couple of more psychedelic tracks: the original, sitar-heavy, version of 'Just Dropped In' by it's composer Mickey Newbury, and the similarly eastern-influenced 'Semi-Great Predictor' by (future Smokey And The Bandit co-star) Jerry Reed.

Once again, the tracks here are all from the late 1960s through to the early '70s. It's definitely an era I'm very fond of, and again illustrates how difficult it became during that time to classify music into strict genres, as artists incorporated a wide variety of influences and instrumentation into their music.

The mix kicks off with the definitely funky 'Hawg Frog' by Buzz Clifford (who was also responsible for 'Now I Taste The Tears' by Hamilton Streetcar, that I included in my 'Baroque-Folk-Sunshine-Pop' mix).

That's followed by Bobby Darin (sounding a lot like Beck at least 20 years earlier), with a sorry tale of being persecuted by the man for having long hair. This track is a long way from his days as a clean-cut pop-crooner, and is a great representation of how some of the more established stars of the era started to take a few chances and expand their sound.

As one would expect from a 'funky country' mix, both Tony Joe White and Bobbie Gentry are represented here, but what's possibly more surprising is the inclusion of The Osmonds, with their genuinely great version of George Jackson's 'Find 'Em, Fool 'Em, Forget 'Em'.

I also included two killer tracks from Bobby Lance - 'It Can't Be Turned Around' and 'Shake Down Blues' - both from his 'First Peace' album.
